On this version of “Past Passion,” recorded especially for the Ravestock show, the original carefree tune is bitten by a cobra while wandering a Sri Lankan jungle in an acid fog during an Asian vacation gone terribly, terribly wrong. The Prophet VS oozes pure digital dread all over the audio spectrum while the Roland Octapad intones an Alesis sample player to summon the ancestors with an urgent tribal beat. An Oberheim Matrix-6R mournfully wails the song’s signature theme as a shaman chants “woo-bey-ley, woo-bey-ley, woo-bey-ley” over the dying snakebite victim. A heavily distorted Roland MKS-20 piano bears final witness as “Past Passion” crosses over into the spirit world, never to return.
